A source alleges that Donald Trump inquired whether Ukraine had the capability to st.ri.ke Moscow.

Trump’s Shifting Stance on Ukraine: From Doubt to Support

Donald Trump has not always been Ukraine’s biggest supporter in its w*r against Russia. Early in his presidential campaign and during his first months in office, Trump showed little backing for Ukraine despite Russia’s role as the invader. However, recent developments reveal a significant change in his approach.

A New Promise to Send More Weapons

On Monday, Trump promised to send more weapons to Ukraine. This marked a clear shift from his previous skepticism. The Financial Times further reported that Trump privately asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy if Ukraine could strike Moscow with long-range weapons.

A Rocky Relationship Between Trump and Zelenskyy

The relationship between Trump and Zelenskyy has been tense for years. During his campaign, Trump criticized U.S. aid to Ukraine, emphasizing an “America First” policy. He even claimed Ukraine started the conflict, not Russia.

The February meeting at the White House appeared to end hopes for further U.S. military aid under Trump’s leadership. But that stance has softened.

Trump Takes a Tougher Line on Russia

In the past week, Trump’s tone toward Russia has hardened. He pressured Vladimir Putin to end the invasion of Ukraine, threatening severe consequences.

Trump Threatens Russia with Tariffs

On Monday, Trump warned that if Putin doesn’t agree to a ceasefire deal within 50 days, the U.S. will impose “secondary tariffs” on Russia’s trade partners at nearly 100%. “We’re very, very unhappy with them,” Trump said, according to CNBC.

He expressed disappointment that Putin had not signed a deal sooner and promised harsher economic measures if peace is not achieved by September.

Military Aid Backed by Europe

Trump also announced the U.S. would send billions of dollars in military equipment to Ukraine. This gear, bought from American companies and funded by European countries, will be delivered through NATO allies to support Ukraine’s defense.

Trump Encourages Strikes on Russian Territory

According to the Financial Times, Trump privately urged Zelenskyy to increase drone strikes inside Russia. The report claims Trump asked if Ukraine could target Moscow and St. Petersburg if supplied with long-range weapons.

Anonymous sources familiar with the July 4 call between Trump and Zelenskyy said the aim was to “make them [Russians] feel the pain” and pressure Russia to negotiate.

Zelenskyy reportedly responded, “Absolutely. We can if you give us the weapons.”

Trump Denies Wanting Ukraine to Target Moscow

On July 15, Trump publicly denied the report. “No, he should not target Moscow,” Trump stated, distancing himself from the claim.

What’s Next?

Trump’s recent shift from skepticism to active support signals a new chapter in the U.S.-Ukraine relationship amid the ongoing w*r.
