A Moment That Seemed Funny at First
A few days ago, after a long, exhausting day, I found myself at the grocery store, feeling frustrated. As I turned into an aisle, I noticed a woman slumped over a shopping cart. She was completely passed out. Her two young kids were asleep inside the cart, curled up like little bundles. The scene looked chaotic. Without much thought, I took out my phone and snapped a photo.
Then, I posted it on social media with the caption:
“Some moms just give up 🙄.”
I thought people would find it funny. Some did laugh. Others did not. A few called me out for being insensitive. I brushed off the criticism, thinking, “People are just too sensitive these days.”
When Life Gives You a Wake-Up Call
But life has a way of humbling you. Two nights later, I was at home making dinner. While cutting open a spaghetti squash, the knife slipped and sliced my hand. It wasn’t life-threatening, but the bleeding was heavy. I panicked. I wrapped my hand in a towel and rushed to the emergency room, overwhelmed and scared.
At the hospital, I could barely explain my injury to the front desk staff. I kept repeating how much pain I was in, desperate for help.
An Unexpected Encounter
Minutes later, I felt a gentle tap on my shoulder. I turned—and froze. It was her. The mom from the grocery store. The one I mocked. She stood there, wearing scrubs.
With a calm smile, she softly asked,
“Do you recognize me?”
My heart sank. I wanted to disappear. But she didn’t treat me any differently. She cleaned my wound and bandaged my hand. She did her job with kindness and grace.
A Lesson I’ll Never Forget
That night, I went home with more than just stitches. I carried a powerful lesson:
You never know what someone is going through.
Be kind. Always.
