A Major Hollywood Big Screen And TV Legend Has Passed Away

Distinguished Canadian actor Donald Sutherland has passed away. He is known for being in popular movies such as  The Hunger Games and Ordinary People and Mash. He died in Miami, after a drawn out illness, at the age of 88.

His son, Keifer Sutherland, posted the sad  news on X,

“With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away. I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film. Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that. A life well lived.”

He was born July 17, 1935 in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. He trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. His first major role was in the 1967 film “The Dirty Dozen.” Some of his other major roles were in “MASH” (1970), “Don’t Look Now,” “Invasion of the Body Snatchers,” “JFK,” and “Pride and Prejudice.”

In 2017, Sutherland received an Academy Honorary Award for his cinema contributions. He received a few Emmy awards for the miniseries “Citizen X” and “Path to War.” Donald Sutherland’s career is characterized by a wide range of roles that demonstrate his remarkable ability to adapt to different genres and characters, making him one of the most respected actors in the industry.

The actor was rarely gossiped about; however, he had a two-year affair with Jane Fonda. She was his co-star in the movie Klute. Fonda happened to be married at the time.

Sutherland’s memoir, “Made Up, but Still True,” should be released in November of 2024.

All and all, he was in almost 150 films and had more than 40 television roles over his career.  Donald Sutherland has been married three times and has five children.

He is survived by his wife Francine Racette, five kids and four grandchildren.
