A couple claims a restaurant charged them for “poor parenting,” but the owner later explains the real reason.

The Restaurant Fining Policy: A Controversial Approach

Dining out can be tough for parents. Managing kids in public often leads to a less-than-ideal experience for everyone involved.

The Couple’s Claim

A couple recently claimed they were fined for “poor parenting” at a restaurant. But was this really the case? Keep reading to find out.

The Controversial Fine

A North Georgia restaurant stirred debate by implementing a policy of fining customers for “poor parenting.” The Toccoa Riverside Restaurant, near Blue Ridge, has received mixed reactions online. Should parents be charged for unruly children?

The Incident

A Reddit user shared their experience, explaining, “The restaurant owner told me an extra $50 would be added to my bill because of my kids’ behavior… I was disappointed by the whole experience.”

The Owner’s Perspective

Tim Richter, the restaurant owner, explained that the surcharge was designed to cover additional costs. He clarified that no customer was overcharged. Richter stated that he hadn’t enforced the surcharge until a recent incident involving a family with nine kids, who were running around uncontrollably. While he warned the parents, he never actually charged them.

“We want parents to be parents,” he said. The restaurant, located near the peaceful Toccoa River, is known for its calm atmosphere and loyal patrons.

Public Reactions

Laura Spillman, a visitor from Florida, was shocked by the policy. “That’s crazy,” she said. “Kids are cute; I don’t think it’s right.”

Anne Cox, dining with her family, felt the fee might motivate parents to manage their children’s behavior better. “Parents need to teach kids manners,” she said. “There are other people in the world, so kids should have fun in the right place.”

Federico Gambineri, dining with his young child, expressed concern: “I’ve never heard of this before. If I were charged, I’d be unhappy and probably never recommend this place.”

Jack Schneider, a regular customer, had mixed feelings. “We’ve all sat next to tables with noisy kids. It’s on the parents to manage their kids,” he said.
