According to witnesses, the 60-year-old former “Late Night” host intervened as tensions flared between Rob Reiner and his son Nick. During the heated exchange, O’Brien reportedly stopped a guest from calling 911.
One insider told the Daily Mail, “They got in an argument, the father and son. It got so bad and loud someone wanted to call the police to report it.”

The source added, “Conan stepped in and said, ‘It’s my house, my party, I’m not calling the police.’ He talked them out of calling the authorities.”

Despite the tension, no one anticipated what would follow. Less than 24 hours later, Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead in their home from knife wounds. Their son Nick was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He remains in custody on $4 million bail.
TMZ reported that the argument at the party was “very loud” and noticeable to most guests. Rob and Michele reportedly left shortly after, but it remains unclear if Nick left with them. Family sources revealed that Michele had expressed frustration over her son’s mental health and alleged substance abuse.

People magazine offered a contrasting view. A source close to the Reiners said Nick wasn’t known to be violent, though he struggled with self-destructive behavior and addiction.
