Biffle Family Speaks Out After Tragic Plane Crash
The family of former NASCAR champion Greg Biffle and his loved ones has issued its first public statement since the devastating plane crash that killed him, his wife Cristina Grossu Biffle, and their two children. The tragedy occurred on Dec. 18, 2025, when a Cessna C550 business jet crashed near Statesville Regional Airport in North Carolina, killing all seven people on board.
A Family Statement of Grief
In a joint statement, the families of the victims expressed deep sorrow and heartbreak. They said they are “devastated by the loss of our loved ones” and that the tragedy has left them “heartbroken beyond words.”
They described Greg and Cristina as devoted parents and active philanthropists, whose lives revolved around their young son Ryder, 5, and Greg’s daughter Emma, 14—who he shared with his ex‑wife Nicole Lunders.
The statement also remembered other victims—Dennis Dutton, his son Jack, and family friend Craig Wadsworth, noting all were dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
The families asked for privacy, compassion, and understanding as they grieve and support each other during this “incredibly difficult time.”
Who Was Lost in the Crash
The plane crashed while attempting to return to Statesville Regional Airport shortly after takeoff in cloudy conditions. Greg Biffle, 55, his wife Cristina, daughter Emma, son Ryder, Dennis Dutton, Jack Dutton, and Craig Wadsworth were all killed.
Officials from the FAA and NTSB are investigating the cause of the accident.
NASCAR Community Reacts
In addition to the family’s statement, NASCAR released its own tribute. The organization called the loss “devastating” and said Biffle was “more than a champion driver” and “a beloved member of the NASCAR community.” They highlighted his passion for racing, integrity, and community service.
Remembering a Life of Impact
Greg Biffle was widely respected in the racing world, having won championships in both the NASCAR Xfinity and Truck Series and recording numerous wins in the Cup Series.
Off the track, he was known for his humanitarian work. Biffle used his own resources to aid communities hit by disasters, including helicopter rescue missions after Hurricane Helene.
Community and Public Support
Public figures, elected officials, and racing leaders have also shared condolences. North Carolina officials and U.S. lawmakers called the loss heartbreaking and praised Biffle’s character and service to others.
Focus on Healing and Honoring Lives
In their joint statement, the families said they are focused on honoring the lives of those lost and supporting one another as they process the unimaginable. They thanked the public for the outpouring of support and asked for continued understanding as they grieve.
