Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, are being remembered with deep grief following the devastating news of their deaths.
In a statement shared with Variety, the family expressed their heartbreak:
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are devastated by this sudden loss and ask for privacy as we navigate this unimaginably difficult time.”
On Sunday, December 14, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the couple’s home, where they discovered both Rob and Michele deceased, PEOPLE confirmed. Rob was 78, and Michele was 68.
In the hours that followed, multiple sources confirmed that the couple were killed by their son, Nick Reiner.

Rob and Michele married in 1989 after meeting when he directed When Harry Met Sally. They shared two children, Romy and Jake, in addition to Nick. Rob was also the adoptive father of Tracy Reiner, his former wife Penny Marshall’s daughter from her earlier marriage to Michael Henry.
The LAFD told PEOPLE that emergency responders arrived around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday for a reported medical call and found the couple already deceased. PEOPLE later learned that their daughter, Romy, was the one who discovered them.
Early reports simply noted that two bodies had been found at the residence, but confirmation soon followed identifying Rob and Michele as the victims. According to TMZ, both suffered injuries consistent with a stabbing.
Rob Reiner rose to fame portraying Mike “Meathead” Stivic on All in the Family, a role that earned him two Emmy Awards. He went on to build a storied career as an actor, director, and producer. His directorial debut, This Is Spinal Tap (1984), became a cultural landmark, followed by classics such as Stand by Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), Misery (1990), and A Few Good Men (1992).
He also appeared in major roles in films including Sleepless in Seattle (1993), Bullets Over Broadway (1994), The First Wives Club (1996), and The Wolf of Wall Street (2013).
Before marrying Michele, Rob was wed to the late Penny Marshall, who passed away in 2018. Their marriage lasted ten years, and Rob adopted her daughter Tracy during that time.
