A Verdict in Collin County

A Tragic Loss

On April 2, 2025, 17-year-old Austin Metcalf was fatally stabbed during a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas. Known for his athletic talent, quiet discipline, and team spirit, Austin’s death left a deep mark on his family, friends, and the local community.

The Legal Process Begins

Karmelo Anthony, also 17 at the time, was arrested and charged with murder. A Collin County grand jury later indicted him on a first-degree murder charge. Anthony was placed under house arrest with an ankle monitor, and his trial is scheduled for June 1, 2026.

As of now, no verdict or conviction has been issued, and under U.S. law, Anthony cannot face the death penalty because he was under 18 when the crime occurred. The legal process is ongoing, with pre-trial motions, hearings, and ultimately a jury trial ahead.

Community Response

The tragedy has stirred grief across schools, neighborhoods, and families. Students, teammates, and teachers remember Austin through stories, photos, and shared memories. Local conversations reflect on the fragility of youth, the impact of violence, and the importance of accountability.

Reflection and Healing

While the court has yet to render a judgment, the community continues to wrestle with questions of justice, prevention, and care. Austin Metcalf’s memory serves as a reminder of how a single violent moment can ripple through countless lives—and how the work of healing belongs to everyone who remains.
