Couple Found Dead in Garage
A California community was shaken after Dr. Eric Cordes, 63, and his wife, Vicki Schiller, 66, were fatally shot in their garage on Sunday, November 30, 2025. Authorities arrived shortly before noon after panicked neighbors called 911. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital but later pronounced dead.
The couple lived in Simi Valley’s upscale Wood Ranch neighborhood. Dr. Cordes had been a respected board-certified radiologist for nearly 30 years.
Son Accused as Killer
Police later revealed that the suspected shooter was Keith Cordes, 37, the couple’s son and stepson. Investigators described the attack as targeted and premeditated.
Neighbor Mike Hylton recalled:
“He did a drive-by, a dry run at 11:25, then staked out the cul-de-sac. At 12:01, he waited for the garage door to open — and that was it.”
Mike described the horrific scene: Dr. Cordes slumped in the driver’s seat of his Maserati, Vicki lying behind him, both bleeding.
“They dragged Eric out and tried CPR, but it was too late,” he said.

Suspect Dies in Separate Incident
Less than three hours later, police found Keith Cordes’ burned car in Chino, about 70 miles from Simi Valley. Inside was a badly burned body, later confirmed as Keith. Police believe he set the car on fire and then fatally shot himself. A handgun recovered from the vehicle matches the one used in the murders.
Motive and Family Tensions
Authorities have not confirmed a motive but are investigating long-standing family disputes, including financial tensions. Neighbors report simmering conflicts that may have contributed to the tragedy.
Community Mourns
The couple were well-known in their community. Dr. Cordes worked at Adventist Health Simi Valley, where staff described him as compassionate and respected. Neighbors remembered block parties, camping trips, and the couple’s generosity.
Kelly Cordes posted on Facebook:
“You didn’t deserve this. You were the kindest, most generous, and loving souls that welcomed everybody they met. RIP Uncle Eric & Aunt Vicki.”
Authorities confirm no ongoing threat to the public.
