Violent Day in Omaha: Officers and Civilian Wounded, Suspect Killed
A chaotic chain of events ended with three police officers and one civilian wounded — and the suspect dead. The incident unfolded Wednesday in Omaha, Nebraska.
From Grocery Store to Gas Station — Rapid Turn of Events
The day began with a shooting at a grocery store just after noon. A 61‑year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. Police identified the suspect and managed to get his license‑plate number.
Using that plate, officers tracked the suspect’s car to a nearby gas station. He entered the bathroom at the gas station. Officers moved in to arrest him.
Gunfire Erupts — Officers Hit, Suspect Dead
As officers ordered him out of the restroom, the suspect opened fire. One officer was struck immediately. The suspect then retreated back inside.
Moments later, he emerged and fired again. That second round wounded another officer; a third was hit by shrapnel. Officers returned fire. The suspect died at the scene.
A bystander who had been in the bathroom escaped unharmed.
Officers Stable, Investigation Underway
The three injured officers were taken to hospital. Their wounds are reported as serious but non‑life‑threatening. One officer — hit by shrapnel — has already been released.
The investigation is now active. Several law-enforcement agencies are assisting. Officials say it was a “very dangerous day” for the city.
Civilian Remains Critical
The 61‑year-old man shot earlier remains in critical condition after suffering multiple chest wounds.
