A New Nickname Emerges in the Cabinet Room
Donald Trump may be the president of the United States, but he seems to have earned a new nickname after appearing to “fall asleep” during Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting. Social media users quickly labeled him “Dozy Don” and “Commander in Sleep.”
A Long Meeting and Drooping Eyes
The 79-year-old initially looked energetic as he urged each Cabinet member to highlight their first-year accomplishments.
However, as the meeting stretched to two hours and 17 minutes, his eyes began to droop and he appeared to nod off. The session covered a wide range of topics—Trump’s tougher stance on drug trafficking, questions about his health, and a sharp criticism of Somali migrants.
White House Pushes Back
Even as clips of Trump’s waning attention spread online, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt rejected any claim that Trump lacked energy.
“President Trump was listening attentively and running the entire three-hour marathon Cabinet meeting,” she told the Daily Mail.
Not the First Accusation
This incident marks the third time in recent weeks that Trump has faced accusations of falling asleep during meetings.
Trump Spars With Reporters
Before appearing tired, Trump clashed with journalists over questions about his health.
“You always find something new—‘Is he in good health?’” he said, adding sarcastically, “Biden was great.”
He continued attacking the press: “I sit here and do four news conferences a day. I answer questions from very intelligent lunatics. I give the right answers. There’s never a scandal.”
Health Scrutiny Intensifies
Recent pressure over his health grew after Minnesota Governor Tim Walz urged Trump to release his MRI results.
Trump complied, and on December 1 the White House announced that his results were “perfectly normal.”
“You people are crazy,” Trump told reporters. “I’ll let you know when something’s wrong. Right now, I think I’m sharper than I was 25 years ago.”
Attention Slips as Meeting Continues
Despite that confidence, Trump’s focus faded about 90 minutes into the meeting. Cameras caught him with his eyes closed while other officials spoke, prompting the wave of mocking nicknames online.
Leavitt Defends Trump Again
Leavitt insisted the president remained fully engaged and pointed to what she called his “amazing final answer,” which included a harsh critique of Somali migrants.
She praised the meeting as “historic” and claimed it showcased the administration’s achievements.
Another Attack on Somali Migrants
During his comments, Trump targeted Representative Ilhan Omar and Somali migrants, saying: “She’s garbage, her friends are garbage.”
He added, “They complain and do nothing but b***h. We don’t want them in our country. Let them go back to where they came from and fix it.”
