A Vacation Selfie Turns Terrifying
A Swiss tourist got far more than a scenic selfie during her trip to Victoria Falls — and the shocking moment is now going viral.
What started as a simple vacation video became a heart-stopping surprise for Jess Melu, who visited the Zambian side of the world-famous waterfall. Like most travelers, Melu wanted to capture the dramatic landscape behind her. But when she reviewed the footage later, she noticed something unsettling creeping into the frame.
The Unexpected Visitor
Melu shared the clip on social media with the caption: “POV: You try to take a cute cliff video… but Africa has other plans.” The video shows her sitting near the rocky edge in a bright red swimsuit, the roaring falls creating a postcard-perfect backdrop. Everything looks serene — until viewers spotted what she had missed in real time: a small snake slithering just over her right shoulder.
The reptile glides in from the upper corner, moving directly behind her before the video abruptly cuts off. Neither Melu nor the person filming seemed aware of how close danger was.

Social Media Reacts
In her caption, Melu challenged viewers: “Can you spot it? What would you do sitting on that cliff?” She added later, “Check the left side of my shoulder. I think she was about to attack me.”
Viewers flooded the comments section with reactions:
-
“I would’ve gone right off that cliff,” joked one user.
-
“I’m thankful I never saw any snakes while I was there — I definitely would’ve fallen trying to get away!” another added.
Some fans found humor in the situation. One wrote, “You’re so beautiful the snake wanted to say hi.” Others simply called the moment “epic,” marveling at the dramatic footage.
A Close Call
Melu reassured followers that she only discovered the snake after recording the video. “Luckily, I only saw it after the video was taken,” she said.
The clip is a reminder that while vacation photos can be fun, wildlife can surprise you — especially in rugged natural environments like Victoria Falls. For Melu, the memory of nearly sharing her perfect moment with an uninvited reptilian guest is one she won’t forget.
