MARCO & JEANETTE RUBIO’S MEMORABLE PROPOSAL TALE

Marco & Jeanette Rubio’s Memorable Proposal: 27 Years of Love and Laughter

Senator Marco Rubio and his wife, Jeanette Dousdebes Rubio, recently celebrated 27 years of marriage on October 17. Their journey began years earlier in Florida, and one of their most cherished moments came on Valentine’s Day 1997: Rubio’s proposal at the Empire State Building.

A Proposal Inspired by Romance

Rubio planned a perfect proposal. He chose Valentine’s Day, the iconic Empire State Building, and the ideal moment to pop the question. He drew inspiration from Jeanette’s love for Sleepless in Seattle.

However, Jeanette wasn’t eager to brave the cold and wind on the observation deck. She declared, “Way too windy!” Rubio improvised. With humor, he joked, “I love King Kong. I’ve always wanted to climb the Empire State Building!” His playful quip convinced her to join him.

The Moment That Defined Them

At the 102nd floor, with Manhattan sprawling below, Rubio knelt and asked Jeanette to marry him. She said yes, but Rubio immediately took back the ring, worried she might drop it over the edge. He told her, “Let’s wait until we’re on the ground,” highlighting the mix of romance and practicality that would define their life together.

Building a Life Together

The Rubios married in 1998 and now live in West Miami with their four children: Amanda, Daniella, Anthony, and Dominic. Jeanette, often described as the grounding force of the family, balances home life while Marco navigates politics.

Through Florida House campaigns, Senate service, and public scrutiny, Jeanette has been a constant source of support. Rubio frequently emphasizes that shared meals, church, and family routines help maintain unity despite busy schedules.

A Celebration of Faith, Family, and Humor

Over the years, their relationship has blended affection, humor, and faith. Even decades after that windy proposal, they recall it fondly. The King Kong joke, the icy wind, and the cautious ring exchange all capture the essence of their partnership: love, laughter, and devotion.

For Marco and Jeanette Rubio, the proposal was just the beginning of a lifelong journey — one marked by warmth, commitment, and the same determination that brought them together nearly three decades ago.
