After Missing Episodes, Mark Consuelos Opens Up About His First Colonoscopy

Mark Consuelos Breaks Silence After Mysterious Absence

After a sudden, unexplained break from Live with Kelly and Mark, Mark Consuelos revealed the reason: his very first colonoscopy at age 54. He admitted the timing was “late,” sparking a broader conversation about routine screenings.

Fans were both relieved and surprised as Consuelos opened up on the November 17 episode, following an impassioned plea from Kelly Ripa about the dangers of neglecting health checks.

“There are things you can nip in the bud,” Ripa said, emphasizing the importance of preventive care. That’s when Consuelos shared his secret: he had quietly undergone the procedure just weeks earlier.

“I’m 54… That’s Late”

Consuelos admitted he was behind on screenings. “I’m 54 and hadn’t had one yet, so that’s late,” he said. According to American Cancer Society guidelines, colonoscopies should start at 45—almost a decade earlier than his first.

He described the experience under general anesthesia, joking about feeling unusually rested and being distracted by an attractive nurse. “She was really cute,” he laughed, admitting he briefly considered setting her up with their youngest son, Joaquin, 22.

Ripa shared that her husband returned home “hungry and wild,” adding humor to the story before confirming the results were clear.

Fans Speculate: Where Was Mark?

Consuelos’ absence had sparked fan speculation. Comedian Steve Patterson filled in as co-host, while viewers were left guessing. Ripa joked about seeing him “still out on the course” with New York City Marathon runners, keeping the mystery alive.

A Pattern of Health Mishaps

This wasn’t Consuelos’ first medical scare. In September, he revealed he injured his arm in his sleep. A dream led him to punch the air violently, hyperextending his arm. He even demonstrated the motion live, joking, “You know you’re getting old when you injure yourself dreaming.”

Despite the injury, he continued hosting the physically demanding “Do It Week” segment, eventually seeking medical advice. Tests revealed a slight tear in his brachioradialis tendon and possibly in his bicep tendon. Ripa joked about him “falling apart,” while Consuelos took it in stride.

Embarrassing Incident in Italy

Consuelos also recalled a humiliating moment abroad. While visiting Campobasso, Italy—home of the soccer team he and Ripa invested in—he pulled a muscle taking a penalty kick. At the team trainer’s facility, he ended up in his underwear.

Ripa described the scene: before he could react, the team doctor’s wife and teenage daughters walked in. Consuelos blamed it on a translation mix-up, but viewers were left cringing.

A Wake-Up Call

From tendon tears to sleep injuries to a long-overdue colonoscopy, Consuelos’ health struggles reveal a clear message: slow down.

Fans laughed at his candid confessions, yet the story also serves as a serious reminder. For viewers in their 40s and 50s, it underscores the importance of preventive care and listening to your body—even amid a busy schedule.
