Missing La Crosse Grad Student Found Dead, She Was 22

A missing 22-year-old graduate student from La Crosse, Wisconsin, has been found dead after disappearing near the Mississippi River early Sunday morning per CBS News.

Eliotte Heinz was last seen around 3:22 a.m. on the 500 block of Front Street South, according to the La Crosse Police Department. Her school, Viterbo University, had become a central hub for volunteer search efforts before the tragic discovery.

“This was not the outcome we had hoped for throughout this search,” La Crosse Police Chief Shawn Kudron said per CBS News. “Our thoughts are with Eliotte’s family, friends and all those who knew Eliotte. We are grateful for the outpouring of support from so many within the La Crosse community, the State of Wisconsin and nationally to locate Eliotte.”

A message 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐳 per a Facebook Post:

“On behalf of our entire family, thank you. The outpouring of support in the search for Eliotte has been overwhelming, and we are deeply grateful for the kindness, prayers, and encouragement from the community and beyond.
“Many of you have asked how you can help. At this time, the most important thing you can do is continue sharing Eliotte’s information on social media. For those in the La Crosse area, we ask that you review any home security camera footage from early Sunday morning between 2–6 a.m.—even the smallest detail could make a difference. If you see anything that may help, please contact the La Crosse Police Department.”
“We are incredibly thankful for the food and supply donations received. We are currently well covered for today. Looking ahead to tonight and tomorrow, donations can be brought to the Viterbo University School of Nursing.”
“For those wishing to provide direct monetary support to Eliotte’s parents, Shane and Amber, contributions can be made via Venmo [link below] or PayPal ([email protected]).”

Police are continuing to investigate the case, and her cause of death has not yet been determined.

Brownsville, where developments may be connected, is located about 15 miles downriver from La Crosse.
