Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani of New York unleashes four blazing words aimed at Trump.

Zohran Mamdani used his election-night speech to send a clear message. Hours after becoming New York City’s first Muslim and South Asian mayor, the 34-year-old Democrat turned his attention to President Donald Trump.

For months, Trump had mocked Mamdani publicly, threatened to defund the city if he won, and even suggested he should be deported.

Mamdani responded head-on. “Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you: Turn the volume up,” he said. “If anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump how to defeat him, it is the city that gave rise to him.”

He added: “New York will remain a city of immigrants, a city built by immigrants, powered by immigrants and as of tonight, led by an immigrant.”

The new mayor, who defeated Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa, securing 50.4 percent of the vote, used the Brooklyn stage to also speak of dismantling “the very conditions that allowed him to accumulate power,” arguing that stopping Trump and those after him would require more than outrage; it would demand structural change.

Mamdani vowed his administration, which begins Jan. 1, will hold landlords accountable because “the Donald Trumps in our city have grown far too comfortable taking advantage of our tenants,” USA Today reported.

Before the elections, Trump, who called Mamdani a “communist” on the social media, posted on Truth Social, “Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice. You must vote for him and hope he does a fantastic job. He is capable of it, but Mamdani is not!” The president added that a vote for Sliwa would only help Mamdani.

“If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the Election for Mayor of New York City, it is highly unlikely that I will be contributing Federal Funds, other than the very minimum as required, to my beloved first home.”

Mamdani responded to the accusations, claiming he wasn’t a communist but a person committed to progressive economic policies, including raising taxes on the wealthiest New Yorkers to fund public services.

“I don’t think that we should have billionaires,” Zohran Mamdani said.

Mamdani’s platform focuses on easing the cost of living. He’s pushing to freeze rent for stabilized apartments, expand city-owned grocery stores, and make public transit free. His goals include cheaper child care and a $30 minimum wage by 2030, funded through higher taxes on corporations and top earners. A proposed Department of Community Safety would take over nonviolent and mental health-related calls, reducing police involvement.
