Former Fox News Host Allegedly Stabs 80-Year-Old Mother to Death – What We Know

Former Fox News Anchor Accused in Kansas Homicide

A former Fox News anchor and current corporate consultant is facing first-degree murder charges after a tragic Halloween incident in Wichita, Kansas. Angelynn “Angie” Elizabeth Mock, 47, was taken into custody by the Sedgwick County Police Department after her mother, 80-year-old Anita Avers, was found fatally stabbed at their home.

Horror on Crowley Street

Police received a report of a stabbing at a residence on Crowley Street near Victoria Street around 7:52 a.m. on October 31, 2025. Officers found Mock outside the home. Inside, they discovered her mother unresponsive in bed with multiple stab wounds. Avers was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead at 8:26 a.m.

The nature of her injuries indicated a violent assault. Authorities have not released details about the weapon or events leading up to the stabbing. Mock was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail and is held on a $1 million bond.

Claims of Self-Defense

Early reports suggest Mock may claim self-defense. Dispatch audio obtained by KAKE shows a woman stating she “stabbed her mother to save herself.” Witness accounts report that after the incident, Mock approached a neighbor, Alyssa Castro, seeking help. Castro recalled seeing Mock covered in blood, asking to call 911 before running back into the house with the phone.

Police have not confirmed whether Mock’s statements were recorded or how they affect the investigation. The motives behind the stabbing remain unclear, and authorities have not reported any history of domestic conflict between Mock and her mother.

A Career in Broadcasting

Before this tragedy, Mock had a notable career in news. She anchored mornings at KOKH FOX 25 in Oklahoma City from 2007 to 2011 and later joined KTVI FOX 2 in St. Louis until early 2015. She earned recognition including a Heartland Emmy for a promotional piece. Earlier roles included sports anchoring and reporting at KECI-TV in Montana, KLKN-TV in Nebraska, and KAAL-TV in Minnesota.

After leaving television, Mock transitioned to software sales and currently works as a data management consultant for Imaging Office Systems. She also volunteered for the American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” campaign and Alzheimer’s awareness programs.

From Public Figure to Suspect

Now at the center of a criminal investigation, Mock’s professional accomplishments contrast sharply with the ongoing tragedy. As investigators continue, the community mourns the loss of Anita Avers. Our thoughts go out to her family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.
