Another loss for the Bryant family

Joe Bryant, father of the legendary NBA player Kobe Bryant, has sadly passed away at the age of 69.

La Salle University’s athletics department confirmed the news. Reports indicate that Joe had recently suffered a stroke, although the precise cause of his death remains unconfirmed.

Known affectionately as “Jellybean,” Joe Bryant was a former professional basketball player who made significant contributions to the sport.

Born in Philadelphia, Joe played college basketball for La Salle University between 1973 and 1975.

In the 1975 NBA draft, he was selected 14th overall by the Golden State Warriors. Over his career, he played for several teams, including the Philadelphia 76ers, the San Diego Clippers, and the Houston Rockets.

Joe also played professionally in Europe, particularly in Italy. After retiring from playing, he returned to La Salle University, joining their coaching staff from 1993 to 1996.

La Salle’s men’s basketball team expressed their deepest condolences, describing Joe Bryant as a cherished member of their basketball family who will be greatly missed.

The Philadelphia 76ers also honored him, recognizing his status as a local basketball icon.

Joe Bryant’s impressive basketball journey spanned from his high school days at Bartram to La Salle University and the NBA.

This heartbreaking news comes just months after the tragic loss of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna in a helicopter crash in California.

Kobe was only 41 years old at the time of his passing. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the Bryant family during this challenging time.

The legacies of Joe and Kobe Bryant in the basketball world will always be remembered and celebrated.
