Viral bearded man seen cheering after Charlie Kirk shooting breaks silence and reveals the reason he did it

A mysterious bearded man caught on camera appearing to celebrate in the chaotic moments after Charlie Kirk’s assassination has stepped forward, claiming his actions were misunderstood.

Viral Clip Sparks Outrage

Footage from Wednesday’s tragedy at Utah Valley University quickly spread online, showing a man in a baseball cap and T-shirt raising his arms and cheering in the aftermath. He later claimed he was shouting ‘USA! USA!’ as a distraction. Viewers blasted the scene as bizarre and heartless, accusing him of cheering Kirk’s death.

The clip, which racked up millions of views on X, became one of the most widely shared images of the aftermath.

“I Wasn’t Celebrating”

Now, a man identifying himself as David says he was the person in the video and insists he wasn’t cheering. Instead, he claims he was trying to calm the panic.

“When I heard a sharp crack at first I thought it might have been fireworks or a disruptive prank,” David explained in a two-minute video posted on X. “When none appeared, I realised it must have been a firearm.”

He said a friend’s reaction made him believe Kirk had been gravely injured. After instinctively checking the security team’s movements, he recalled: “I stood and shouted ‘USA,’ not as a provocation, but to project strength, encourage others, and create a distraction that might help calm panic or even save lives.

Confusing Messages

David emphasized that he is “not overly familiar with Charlie Kirk’s content” and “would never wish to celebrate harm to anyone.”

But in a follow-up clip, he struck a more cryptic tone, calling himself “the happiest person you ever met in your entire life” and adding: “My soldiers, including Charlie, dying so you guys can mock each other.” He did not clarify who he meant by “my soldiers.”

Tyler Robinson, 22, accused in the killing of Charlie Kirk.

A Nation Still Reeling

Kirk, 31, was shot dead during a student debate event, collapsing after being struck in the neck. His murder has drawn condemnation across the political spectrum and tributes from figures including President Donald Trump, who called him “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk.”

After a days-long manhunt, Tyler Robinson, 22, was arrested and charged with aggravated murder. Authorities said his own father turned him in after recognizing him from FBI images.

Lingering Questions

While Robinson awaits trial, David’s viral moment remains a stark reminder of how quickly tragedy and confusion can be misinterpreted online. What some saw as a grotesque celebration, he insists was an attempt to steady the crowd.

“I would never cheer someone’s death,” David said. “I only wanted to stop panic.”
