MSNBC has come under fire after on-air comments about Charlie Kirk were branded “disgusting” and “shameful” in the wake of the conservative star’s d**th.
Controversial Coverage
While covering the breaking news of Wednesday’s sh**ting at Utah Valley University, host Katy Tur called Kirk “divisive” and “polarizing,” while political analyst Matthew Dowd speculated that the gunshot could have come from one of Kirk’s own supporters.
“We don’t know if this is a supporter sh**ting their gun off in celebration or… So we have no idea about this,” Dowd said, before going on to describe Kirk as “constantly sort of pushing this sort of h*te speech.”
Tur described Kirk as “divisive” and “polarizing,” while Dowd went further, calling him “one of the most divisive younger figures… constantly pushing h*te speech.
The remarks sparked instant backlash, with critics accusing MSNBC of showing zero compassion as news footage of Kirk’s fatal gunshot wound spread across social media.
Outrage Erupts
“That’s disgusting. Put your politics aside and have some humanity. Charlie is a person, a husband and father,” one user wrote on X.
“Shameful. Embarrassing for anybody who’s ever worked in the media,” another added.
Even Barstool Sports owner Dave Portnoy blasted the network: “Hey @MSNBC, I’m gonna go ahead and rule out that it was one of Charlie Kirk’s supporters that accidentally sh*t him with a celebratory g*n sh*t.”
A Nation in Mourning
Around 5 p.m., President Donald Trump confirmed Kirk had d**d from his injuries.
“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is d**d,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”
The President also ordered all American flags lowered to half-staff until Sunday evening in Kirk’s honor.
The Tragic Sh**ting
Kirk, wearing a white T-shirt, was seated under a tented gazebo when a bullet ripped into his neck from an estimated 200 feet away, fired from the roof of the Losee Center. Witnesses described him collapsing instantly as bl**d gushed from the w**nd.
Kirk had a security detail with him at the event, but the g*nman remains at large after police initially detained an elderly man who turned out not to be the sh**ter.
“He was just a fountain of bl**d… all these kids are just bawling,” said eyewitness Sophie Anderson, who ran toward the food court and hid in a closet after nearly being trampled in the chaos.
Kirk leaves behind his wife Erika Frantzve, their 3-year-old daughter and 16-month-old son. The couple had just celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary in May.
The fatal rally marked the first stop of Kirk’s “Great American Comeback Tour.” Instead, it ended in tragedy and a bitter fig.ht over how his d**th is being covered in the media.
