Simon Cowell admitted he once feared he might never walk again following a devastating accident

Simon Cowell Feared He’d Never Walk Again After Bike Crash

A Life of Success

Simon Cowell has built an extraordinary career. From launching record labels to creating America’s Got Talent, the 65-year-old music mogul climbed to the very top of the entertainment world. Yet, even with fame and fortune, he learned the hard way that life can change in an instant.

The 2020 Accident

In 2020, Cowell crashed his electric bike in the courtyard of his Malibu home. The fall left him with a broken back and rushed him into surgery. Doctors placed a metal rod during a six-hour procedure. He later admitted he feared the injury might leave him unable to walk again.

On social media, Cowell tried to reassure fans. “If you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it,” he joked, thanking friends and supporters for their kind messages. But behind the humor, the situation was far more serious.

A Shocking X-Ray

Speaking with ExtraTV, Cowell recalled the moment he saw the X-ray. “I nearly could have smashed my spine to pieces, so I literally wouldn’t have been able to walk,” he said. Despite doctors’ advice to rest, he tried to walk just two days after surgery.

Recovery at Home

Recovering in front of his son, Eric, was the hardest part. Embarrassed by his condition, Cowell worried how his young son would see him. But Eric softened the moment by calling him “Ironman.”

The healing process took nearly a year. Cowell later described the pain as “off the charts” and admitted he felt helpless. Still, he promised himself he would become fitter than before — and he kept that promise.

Facing the Fear

Cowell revealed doctors had warned him the surgery might fail. “Number one, I don’t know if I can fix this, which means you probably won’t walk. And secondly, the operation could go wrong,” his surgeon told him. The warning made Cowell realize just how fragile life was.

A New Perspective

The accident changed him. “All I kept thinking about was my family,” he said. “In that moment you realize the most important thing is your health — and not doing stupid things.”

Today, Cowell says he feels better than before the crash. “It wasn’t great for three or four weeks, but after that, I got through it. I had to exercise so much that I actually feel fitter now,” he told People. Ever the joker, he added, “If you want to feel healthier, break your back.”
