Trump terminates Secret Service protection for Kamala Harris in a sharp letter to agents

Trump Revokes Secret Service Protection for Kamala Harris

Former President Donald Trump has canceled Secret Service protection for Kamala Harris as she prepares for a U.S. book tour.

A letter announcing the decision states:

“You are hereby authorized to discontinue any security-related procedures previously authorized by Executive Memorandum, beyond those required by law, for the following individual, effective September 1, 2025: Former Vice President Kamala D. Harris.”

A senior advisor confirmed the news to NBC News, adding that Harris is grateful to the Secret Service for their “professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to safety.”

Security Norms for Former Vice Presidents

Typically, former vice presidents receive six months of protection from the Secret Service after leaving office. Joe Biden extended his protection to a year, according to reports. Harris is not alone in losing protection; former national security adviser John Bolton has also had his security privileges revoked.

Earlier this year, Trump revoked protection for Hunter and Ashley Biden, children of President Joe Biden.

Harris Prepares for Memoir Tour

Harris, who lost the 2024 presidential election to Trump, is set to tour the country to promote her memoir, 107 Days. The book, releasing in September, recounts her short presidential campaign.

Criticism of Trump’s Administration

Since Trump’s return to office in January, Harris has spoken openly against the president, warning that the White House is fostering a “sense of fear.” She stated:

“We are seeing people stay quiet. We are seeing organizations stay quiet. Those who capitulate to clearly unconstitutional threats are visible every day.”

Harris emphasized the importance of courage, saying:

“When a few stand with courage, it spreads. Courage to acknowledge fear, to speak out against wrong, and to protect democracy—courage is contagious.”
