Trump Accused of Major ‘Lie’
Donald Trump appeared to be caught in a major “lie” after Maryland Governor Wes Moore hit back with a sharp six-word response.
On Monday, August 25, Trump signed a series of executive orders while criticizing Baltimore. He described the city as a “terrible death bed” plagued by crime, echoing remarks he has made about other Democratic-led cities.
Moore Pushes Back
Governor Moore quickly rejected Trump’s description. In a speech, he urged the president to “visit our streets and not just talk about us from the Oval Office.”
Trump then claimed that Moore had once privately praised him as “the greatest president of my lifetime.” According to Trump, Moore hugged him, shook his hand, and complimented his leadership.
Governor Denies the Exchange
Moore flatly denied the conversation ever happened. His senior adviser, Carter Elliott IV, confirmed that while the two men had met, Moore never said those words.
Speaking on WBAL Radio, Moore stressed his integrity:
“I spent months campaigning against him. That imaginary conversation never happened.”
On social media, Moore first posted a simple “lol.” He later fired back with a six-word jab: “Keep telling yourself that, Mr. President.”
Trump Fires Back
Trump dismissed Moore as ineffective, claiming he lacks the leadership to reduce crime in Maryland. He also lumped Moore with other Democratic leaders like California Governor Gavin Newsom, saying, “All of their potential candidates are doing a bad job.”
2028 Politics in Play
Moore has been floated as a possible Democratic presidential contender for 2028. On the Republican side, Vice President JD Vance is seen as a likely successor.
Asked by NBC whether Trump might “pass the torch” to him, Vance laughed and said, “The president talks about everything.” He added that Republicans should focus first on governing and the upcoming midterm elections before speculating about 2028.
