‘General Hospital’ Star, Passed Away At Age 79

Australian actor Tristan Rogers, best known for his iconic role as Robert Scorpio on General Hospital, has d**d at the age of 79. His longtime manager, Meryl Soodak, confirmed his passing to ABC 7 Eyewitness News on Friday, Aug. 15.

Rogers first joined the soap in 1980, becoming one of its most beloved stars over decades of appearances. In July, it was revealed he had been diagnosed with lung can**r, even though he was not a smoker. Soodak shared that portraying Robert Scorpio “meant everything” to him, marking the role as a defining part of his life and career.

“He loved being Scorpio and he created that role from nothing,” Soodak continued per PEOPLE. “He was supposed to work a day and he ended up making it into something huge. He was just a genuinely loyal, kind human being and he loved his family.”

Tristan Rogers was an Australian actor best known for his decades-long portrayal of Robert Scorpio on the American daytime soap opera General Hospital. Born on June 3, 1946, in Melbourne, Australia, Rogers began his career in his home country with roles in television and film before moving to the United States in the late 1970s to pursue acting opportunities.

He made his debut on General Hospital in 1980, quickly becoming a fan favorite as the suave, sharp-witted spy Robert Scorpio. His character’s charm, wit, and chemistry with co-stars helped usher in one of the soap’s most celebrated eras. Rogers’ work on the show earned him recognition as a leading figure in daytime television, and he returned to the role multiple times over the years, cementing Robert Scorpio as one of the most enduring characters in soap opera history.

Outside of General Hospital, Rogers built a diverse career in both live-action and voice acting. He appeared in films such as Night Eyes 3 (1993) and Delirious (1991), as well as guest roles in TV series including The BayThe Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless. In the 1990s and 2000s, he also ventured into voice work, lending his voice to animated series and video games, including roles in Mortal Kombat projects.
