Floribama Shore star died on May 2 at the age of 33, following a hospitalization for a serious illness, his family confirmed to TMZ that same day.
Medas rose to fame in 2017 as a main cast member on the MTV reality series Floribama Shore, a spinoff of the original Jersey Shore. He remained with the show for all four seasons.
Before his death, his family launched a GoFundMe campaign revealing that he was in the ICU battling necrotizing pancreatitis, a life-threatening condition.
Per Cedars- Sinai, Necrotizing pancreatitis (NP) is a serious condition where part of the pancreas dies due to inflammation or injury. This damage happens when the pancreas becomes so inflamed that it loses blood and oxygen supply. If the dead tissue becomes infected, it can lead to dangerous complications.
The pancreas, located behind the stomach, helps digest food and regulates blood sugar by releasing hormones like insulin. When pancreatitis occurs, digestive enzymes start damaging the pancreas itself. In severe cases, this leads to necrosis, or tissue death.
The GoFundMe says “Kirk Medas is in the ICU fighting necrotizing pancreatitis. He is sedated and this could take some time to heal. We are praying that he has a full recovery but this process could take some time. The donation will help for medical bills and rehab. He has no medical insurance so your donations will be greatly appreciated. Please continue to uplift Kirk in your prayers . Thank you again from the Medas Family.”
