Camille Razat will not return as Camille in the upcoming season of the hit Netflix series, multiple outlets confirmed on April 17, including ENews. The actress, who portrayed Emily’s friend-turned-rival over the past four seasons, is exiting the show as the storyline shifts to new ground.
Season four concluded with Emily (Lily Collins) being named head of Agence Grateau’s new Rome office, where she begins a new chapter—both professionally and romantically—alongside Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini). However, not everyone is pleased with her promotion.
In a surprise move, Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) decides to follow her to Italy. His long and complicated history with Camille officially ended in season four, after she broke off their engagement upon realizing his heart was still with Emily. The split was further cemented when Camille learned that a pregnancy scare from the season’s first episode turned out to be a false alarm.
As it stands, key characters expected to return include Emily’s ex Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) and friends Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu), Mindy (Ashley Park), Julien (Samuel Arnold), Luc (Bruno Gouery), and Antoine Lambert (William Abadie).
Gabriel’s breakup with Camille may pave the way for a deeper connection with Emily.
Series creator Darren Star previously told Tudum that the relationship between Gabriel and Emily had always carried an element of fantasy, with both characters not fully understanding one another. However, the upcoming season is expected to explore a more grounded dynamic between the two as they begin to see each other more clearly.
After the emotional toll of ending his engagement with Camille and the disappointment of falling short of earning a Michelin star, Gabriel appears to have matured. Actor Lucas Bravo views this growth as a sign that his character may finally be in a place where a relationship with Emily could be more meaningful and authentic.
“At the end of the season, for me it’s the most mature he’s ever been,” he explained. “I think he’s very focused and I feel like he’s ready to go to war for what he wants.”
As for Emily, Darren explained to the outlet she’s “going to have a presence in Rome. It doesn’t mean she’s not going to be in Paris, but she’s going to have a presence in Rome. I want to stay ahead of the audience and take them to unexpected places. It doesn’t mean that Emily’s leaving Paris forever, but the show has the ability to have a bigger footprint.”
