Honest Reflection on a Lifelong Struggle
Candace Cameron Bure confronts her past and present with striking honesty. The Full House actress revealed she has battled bulimia since her teenage years and that the disorder still affects her today.
The Beginning: How It All Started
Bure shared that her eating disorder began at age 18, shortly after her parents put her on a diet. This experience shaped how she viewed her body. She emphasized that her parents did their best but acknowledged the impact their diet-focused household had on her mindset.
When her brother, Kirk Cameron, struggled with eating disorders, their parents grew concerned and shifted the family’s focus toward health. However, everyone remained on some form of a diet. While her parents never pressured her to lose weight directly, their emphasis on dieting subtly influenced her self-image.
“It made me think, ‘My body isn’t good enough the way it is right now,’” Bure said.
Living with Bulimia Today
During her July 22, 2025 podcast episode with guest Lisa Whittle, Bure opened up about ongoing challenges. She admitted, “I’m a bulimic. And I still say I’m a bulimic.” Although she no longer engages in bulimic behaviors, she still battles the thoughts.
“I still need tools to say, ‘No, Candace, we’re not doing that,’” she confessed.
Finding Strength Through Faith
Bure also discussed how her faith helped her heal. In a previous interview, she tearfully recalled how reading the Bible shifted her perspective.
“God allowed my body to speak back… ‘Have I not been the body that carried you all your life?’”

Embracing Aging and Fitness
As Bure approaches 50, she prioritizes fitness—not for vanity but for strength. She explained:
“I want to be able to open a peanut butter jar when I’m 80. That takes grip strength.”
She works out regularly, lifting weights to maintain basic strength and mobility.
Handling Criticism in the Spotlight
Despite her positive mindset, Bure faces harsh comments about her appearance. Recently, she responded to a rude Instagram message accusing her of not aging well. She shared her reaction in now-deleted Stories.
“I receive countless messages like this daily. Aging is sensitive. Comments hurt—whether mean or just opinions.”
Bure highlighted how these remarks can affect children and urged kindness.
“I imagine these people reflect their own struggles. I pray for their hearts to know God’s love.”
She closed with a heartfelt plea:
“Be kind. Uplift others. Spread joy.”
