Homeless Teen Beats The Odds To Become Valedictorian

Most kids aiming to be valedictorian have quiet homes, regular meals, and a stable place to study. Griffin Furlong didn’t have any of that.

He spent most of his life bouncing around shelters with his dad and brother. They had been homeless for 12 years. Griffin never had his own room or a reliable place to sleep, and yet he never gave up.

He stayed in school, kept his grades up, and didn’t tell anyone what he was going through.

Griffin said: “I just want to show that anyone can do it, no matter what you’ve been through. I never want to live that life again. I do everything I do because I don’t want to live like that.”

Some nights he went to bed hungry, not sure where the next meal was coming from. Still, he showed up for class the next day like nothing was wrong.

His teachers didn’t even know what he was dealing with. He kept it all to himself and focused on his goal.

Griffin’s mom passed away from cancer when he was young, and his dad couldn’t keep up with bills after that. They lost their home and just kept moving from place to place.

He never had the quiet environment most students take for granted. But he pushed through and ended up at the top of his class.

At graduation, he stood with the rest of the students like everything was normal. Then he was announced as valedictorian.

His story turns the idea of who can succeed completely on its head. He had every reason to quit, but he didn’t.

Griffin proved that your situation doesn’t have to define you. He didn’t just graduate. He graduated first.
