Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne maintained a euthanasia agreement over many years.

Rock Legend Passes Away Surrounded by Family

Ozzy Osbourne, the iconic Black Sabbath frontman, d**d on Tuesday at 76. He passed at his UK estate, surrounded by loved ones. Just weeks before, he performed his final show on July 5 in Birmingham, England, sitting in a chair due to his declining health.

The Osbourne family released a heartfelt statement:

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we announce the passing of our beloved Ozzy Osbourne this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask for privacy as we grieve.”

A Decades-Old Plan for Dignity

Years before Ozzy’s d**th, Sharon Osbourne revealed in her 2007 autobiography Survivor: My Story – The Next Chapter that she and Ozzy had a pact regarding euthanasia. This agreement was rooted in her fear of developing dementia like her father.

Sharon wrote:

“If this disease is to be my fate, I don’t want to repeat history and go through what my father went through.”
She explained their plan for assisted death in Switzerland, where euthanasia is legal.
“My kids would take me there. You can die with dignity.”

Confirmed by Sharon and the Family

In a later interview with The Mirror, Sharon confirmed their mutual decision.

“Ozzy and I have absolutely come to the same decision. We believe 100 percent in euthanasia and have made plans for assisted suicide if either of us develops a brain illness like Alzheimer’s.”

She described discussing it openly with their children:

“We gathered the kids, told them our wishes, and they all agreed.”

Sharon also shared painful memories of watching her father’s rapid decline from dementia. She contrasted it with ca**er, where patients can communicate their pain. Dementia, she said, turned her father into a shell, unable to care for himself.

Ozzy’s Own Views on Assisted D**th

Ozzy publicly disclosed his Parkinson’s diagnosis in 2019. Despite his illness, the family has not yet confirmed his cause of d**th.

Years earlier, in 2014, Ozzy told Daily Mirror he had made peace with assisted d**th should he face a life-thr**tening condition that strips his independence:

“If I can’t live my life the way I’m living it now — and I don’t mean financially — then that’s it… Switzerland.”
He described not wanting to live with severe disability or paralysis and had made arrangements to leave his estate to Sharon and their children.

Family Addresses Misconceptions

In summer 2023, their daughter Kelly Osbourne denied rumors that her parents had a suicide pact. She called such reports “bulls–t” and emphasized that her father was not dy*ng at that time.

However, Sharon revisited the euthanasia topic on The Osbournes Podcast, expressing that mental and physical suffering were unbearable.

“If you suffer pain with your mind and body, then it’s goodbye,” she said.

When questioned by Kelly about the possibility of survival despite illness, Sharon emotionally responded by highlighting the loss of dignity and independence.

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne’s euthanasia agreement shows their desire for dignity in the face of illness. It also reveals a family openly confronting difficult choices with honesty and love.
