Months after Sheinelle Jones’ final appearance on “Today,” her beloved husband tragically di.ed following a battle with a serious illness.
The adored co-host of NBC’s “Today,” Sheinelle Jones, is dealing with a devastating personal loss when her husband of 17 years, Uche Ojeh, passed away at the age of 45. This heartfelt announcement was made during the May 23 edition of “Today.”
The report stated that Ojeh di.ed following a valiant fight against glioblastoma, a severe type of brain cancer. On her Instagram page, Jones posted a brief excerpt of the piece with the message, “Thank you, for all of your love and support. 
.”
Savannah Guthrie, who called Ojeh “an incredible person” and acknowledged the great loss they feel for Jones and their three children, captured the team’s affection and grief for him in the video.
Guthrie said, “And so we want to take a moment to tell you more about the remarkable man who was Sheinelle’s perfect partner in life,” just as a video montage featuring a collection of cute pictures of the pair started to play.
A voiceover recounting Jones and Ojeh’s lovely love story, which grew over the many years they spent together, was incorporated into the montage. In addition to highlighting the pair’s intense love for one another, the narrator built a vivid picture of Ojeh as an incredible man.
When a young Jones, a freshman at the time, was invited to show a high school senior about Northwestern University in the late 1990s, the couple’s romance got underway. It was Ojeh, that senior.
At the same university where their journey started, Ojeh proposed to Jones after they had been dating for eight years.
In September 2007, they tied the knot in Philadelphia, Jones’ hometown. In August 2009, the couple had their first child, and in July 2012, twins were born, expanding their family by three years.
A man whose life was based on faith, family, friends, and cultural pride was the successful consultant. He made it a point to teach his and Jones’ children about their Nigerian heritage since he felt a strong connection to it.
In addition, he was a devoted member of his church choir and an avid football player. Friends and coworkers remember his steadfast love for his kids, always there and always proud.
Craig Melvin paid a heartfelt homage to Ojeh on the show, calling him “the dad” who never missed a school function, recital or football match. He was incredibly proud of his children’s achievements and devoted to them.
Jones and Ojeh shared a strong tie of affection and respect for one another. Their love was evident in many ordinary moments throughout their marriage, such as tiny acts of kindness, mutual triumphs, and unwavering support for one another’s objectives.
Ojeh proudly supported Jones at the finish line of her first New York City Marathon, which she ran just two years earlier. Jones responded by praising Ojeh’s endurance and strength when he finished a triathlon just before her marathon.
Their bond served as evidence of unwavering love and long connection. In addition to his family, the larger “Today” community, where Ojeh was well-known and loved, also suffers a great loss with his demise.
Everyone who had the honour of knowing him is forever changed by his kind, giving, and loyal nature. A community that genuinely laments Ojeh’s departure celebrates his memory, which continues to be a source of inspiration and light while the Jones-Ojeh family copes with this enormous loss.
A few months prior to the devastating news, Jones announced on Instagram in January that she would be taking a leave of absence to deal with a “family health matter.” She also thanked her “Today” family and everyone else who has gotten in touch with her.
Following her final appearance on “Today” on December 18, 2024, the post was made. Sheinelle Jones has only appeared in pre-recorded episodes since that time.
Jones has also posted touching recollections of herself and her late husband on social media, much like the lovely video montage made by the “Today” co-hosts.
In September 2023, she celebrated their 16th anniversary with an especially compelling carousel post that featured stunning photos from her and Ojeh’s wedding day.
In one picture, the bridal party is standing behind the groom, celebrating with bright floral accents and matching smiles, while the groom himself is beaming with excitement and his laughter lights up the situation.
Another depicts the bride, glowing and lively, smiling playfully as she turns to face the wedding guests, her gown flowing behind her as the sun captures the day’s sheer beauty.
In another picture, Ojeh appears to lift Jones’ veil as the pair, surrounded by loved ones, exchange glances in the golden light of their ceremony.
The second picture shows them standing together at the altar, a solemn, sacred moment in their journey as husband and wife, with candles and reverence filling the room.
“Happy Anniversary Uche [sic]. – It’s amazing how life works sometimes … I was born in Philly … moved away as a baby … visited my father every summer after my parents separated …” began Jones in her post’s caption.
She continued, “But I never imagined I’d end up having some of the best years of my life and career there, getting married in Philly, and ultimately having 3 kids at the same hospital where I was born. We’ve created beautiful memories… here’s to a lifetime more. 16 years!”
As they grieve such a profound loss, we would like to offer our deepest sympathies to Jones, her and Ojeh’s three children, family, loved ones, “Today” family, friends, and everyone else impacted. In the midst of their sorrow, we wish them healing. Rest in peace, Ojeh.
