Brave dad left heartbreaking voicemails for his children before disappearing in Texas floods

A Father’s Last Goodbye

Jeff Ramsey, a 61-year-old father from Kerrville, Texas, left heartbreaking voicemails for his children as floodwaters overtook his RV. Trapped with his wife Tanya, Jeff fought to save lives even as danger closed in.

His son, 24-year-old Jake Ramsey, recalls the chilling call that changed everything. “My dad called me and my sister while we were asleep,” Jake said. “He told us he wasn’t going to make it. He said goodbye and told us he loved us so much.”

The first voicemail was brief but devastating. “He said, ‘Buddy, I love you so much. It doesn’t look like we are going to make it. Tell Rachey I love her,’” Jake shared.

Fear in His Voice

Jake described how unusual it was to hear his father sound scared. “You never heard this guy panic, but we heard panic and fear in his voice,” he said.

Minutes later, Jeff left a second voicemail for Jake’s sister Rachel. In the background, rushing water and Tanya’s screams filled the audio. Tanya cried, “We’re d**ng, we’re d**ng!”

A Too-Late Warning

The RV park’s evacuation alert arrived far too late. Jake explained the message telling residents to “head out as soon as possible” came just as his parents were already being swept away.

“It was literally right as he left my sister that goodbye message,” Jake said. “That’s a person’s worst nightmare.”

Last Act of Heroism

Before the flood claimed him, Jeff used his final moments to help others. He called fellow residents and Tanya’s family to warn them.

“He rescued them because they would have slept in and been washed away,” Jake said. “He saved their lives.”

Tanya’s Brave Battle

Tanya, 46, had been battling breast ca**er. She worked as a Client Care Manager at Wigs.com and openly shared her cancer journey in a YouTube interview in March 2024.

She was diagnosed with invasive ductal carc**oma after Jeff found a lump in September 2023. Doctors placed her ca**er between stages 2 and 3.

Tanya spoke candidly about losing her hair during chemotherapy but found comfort in Jeff’s support. He often helped her pick wigs that looked natural, showing his gentle care.

Family Love Beyond Blood

Jake said Tanya loved him and his sister as her own children. “Obviously, we have a mom, but we were her babies,” he said.

Jeff was known for kindness and generosity. He worked at a local gym where he witnessed “daily miracles” — stories of recovery and hope.

“There are miracles happening there all the time,” Jake said. Jeff told him that helping others was “his calling.”
