Kate Middleton went through cancer treatment after being diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer last year. In September, she said she was cancer-free, and in January, she announced that she was in remission. However, while Kate is on her way back to everyday life, things are no longer as they used to be. One expert now shares a new verdict on how the Princess of Wales really is doing.
Kate Middleton has praised doctors and nurses for their hard work during her cancer treatment and has met with cancer patients several times. In early July, she visited Colchester Hospital in Essex, where she once again met cancer patients and spent time in a specially designed garden which is to be used as a restorative space for those receiving treatment.
Per People Magazine, Kate Middleton opened up about her cancer journey during the visit, saying that the time after the treatment was not what she expected.
“You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment. Treatment’s done, then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,’ but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult,” Kate Middleton said.
“You’re not necessarily under the clinical team any longer, but you’re not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to. And actually, someone to help talk you through that, show you and guide you through that sort of phase that comes after treatment, I think is really valuable.”
The Princess of Wales added that it was “life-changing,” concluding, “You have to find your new normal and that takes time…and it’s a rollercoaster, it’s not smooth, like you expect it to be,” she said. “But the reality is you go through hard times.”
Kate Middleton opens up on life after cancer treatment
Kate has been attending an increasing number of royal events over the last few months. She was seen with her family during Trooping the Colour, but was not present at the Royal Ascot.
Why is that? According to a new report in the Daily Mail, the princess is “quite strict” about choosing the public outings she needs to attend. While Kate has been gradually returning to public life, she is careful to find the right balance in her life.
A source told the Daily Mail: “She’s quite strict now at working out what she needs to be at and what she doesn’t. And people forget that even if they aren’t seeing her in public, she is very hands-on behind the scenes with the team in the office. She has her own projects to pursue, such as her early years initiative. That’s a lifelong commitment for HRH.”
Another source claimed that Kensington Palace needs to have ‘flexiility’ surrounding Kate Middleton’s schedule. If that will lead to a more packed schedule for Kate Middleton in the future, time will tell.
While Kate Middleton is slowly returning to her regular duties as a member of the Royal Family, there is more to life than that. She and Prince William are raising their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. In addition to managing their daily lives, the kids are also engaged in various activities outside of school.
Kate Middleton felt “exhausted,” royal expert says
Meanwhile, Kate decided not to attend the Royal Ascot, which otherwise is seen as an event the royals always attend. So why was that? According to royal expert Neil Sean, she simply didn’t have the energy.
Kate Middleton is said to be a quiet force behind palace doors, as she continues to keep busy and prioritize her health after skipping Royal Ascot.
“Princess Catherine has been recuperating behind the scenes,” royal expert Neil Sean told Fox. “This includes a return to ballet with her daughter Princess Charlotte, a massive return to daily nature walks, as well as [keeping up with] her photography hobby.”
“An excellent source told me she is living in the moment and has no time for drama… or difficult family members,” Sean claimed. “She attended Trooping of the Colour and the Order of the Garter but felt it was too much to attend Royal Ascot. She felt exhausted. This is normal… regarding her return after cancer.”
When Kate Middleton has some time to spare, expert Neil Sean says she plays the piano “every single day.” The royal duties she does complete are all done at her own pace.
“Behind the scenes, the Princess of Wales continues with various Zoom chats with her charities… and dealing with an incredible amount of correspondence from all over the world. But as she’s pointed out, it’s the simple things in life that have truly turned her life around,” Neil Sean added.
