“I figured mine could be done in decency and order. I could also, based on the rules, cover it up,” she shared in an interview with WKRG.

However, her tattoo became the subject of a complaint, prompting an investigation. To comply, Kay’Ana grew out her hair as instructed by the department, but the complaints didn’t stop. “Definitely blindsided,” Kay’Ana told Local12. “I never thought it would come to this, especially considering I was in compliance.”
