Prince William’s Hidden Concern Over Meghan’s Wedding Attire
A Royal Bond Turns Cold
It’s hard to believe that Prince William and Kate Middleton have been married for over a decade. Their royal wedding in 2011 was nothing short of grand. Years later, William watched his younger brother, Prince Harry, marry Meghan Markle. At one time, the two brothers were inseparable. Today, their relationship is fractured—and many say Meghan’s entry into the royal family played a key role.
Meghan Markle’s Grand Entrance
Harry and Meghan’s 2018 wedding stood out for many reasons. Meghan, a former American TV actress, was a unique addition to the monarchy. And in a touching gesture, King Charles (then Prince Charles) walked Meghan down the aisle after her father couldn’t attend. But while the public saw a beautiful ceremony, behind the scenes, not everyone was at ease.
William’s Private Worries
According to royal sources, Prince William wasn’t entirely pleased with Meghan’s wedding day. He was especially concerned about one detail: her jewelry. Meghan wore a piece from Princess Diana’s collection, something that reportedly unsettled William. In fact, royal author Robert Jobson claims William went as far as asking Queen Elizabeth for reassurance that Meghan wouldn’t wear Diana’s jewels.
A Fast-Moving Romance
Harry and Meghan’s romance moved quickly. They met in 2016 and were engaged by late 2017. William, however, believed they were rushing. According to Finding Freedom authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, William told Harry, “Take as much time as you need to get to know this girl.” Harry didn’t take the advice well and felt offended by William’s wording.
Trouble in the Royal Fold
From the start, Meghan struggled to find her footing in royal life. She admitted during her 2021 Oprah interview that she hadn’t understood what her royal duties would involve. Harry believed his brother and sister-in-law, William and Kate, hadn’t done enough to help Meghan adjust. Royal expert Katie Nicholl confirmed this, saying Harry felt they failed to “roll out the red carpet” for her.
Fallout Over Family Drama
Harry was deeply hurt by what he perceived as William’s coldness. The tension grew worse with time. Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle, added to the chaos by staging paparazzi photos before the wedding and ultimately backing out of the ceremony due to health issues. Meghan was devastated. Charles offered to walk her down the aisle, but she requested he meet her halfway—showing her independence even on her wedding day.
The Rift Deepens
Despite the fairytale wedding at Windsor, behind the scenes, things were tense. Jobson described the event as a public success but a private disaster. William and Harry’s bond had frayed. Though William served as Harry’s best man, their relationship was already deteriorating.
The US Chapter – And New Tensions
Since stepping back from royal duties, Harry and Meghan have built new lives in California. But now, William and Kate may be following them across the Atlantic. In May 2023, the couple filed paperwork to trademark their Royal Foundation in the U.S.—including categories related to mental health, a cause close to Meghan and Harry.
This move reportedly stunned Meghan. Sources told OK! magazine that she sees it as William and Kate stepping into “her turf.” The idea of the popular Prince and Princess of Wales doing more work in America has left Meghan feeling uneasy.
Will the Brothers Reconcile?
The rift between Harry and William remains wide. They reportedly aren’t speaking, and Meghan and Kate’s relationship hasn’t fared much better. As the Sussexes continue their U.S. ventures and the Waleses eye expansion across the pond, royal watchers wonder: Will the brothers ever repair their bond?
