Trump Supporters Reveal What Could Make Them Stop Supporting Him
Trump won the 2024 election just eight months ago. Yet, his approval ratings are already slipping.
A recent Emerson College poll shows 45% approve of how Trump runs the U.S. Meanwhile, 46% disapprove, and 9% remain unsure. Notably, 45% believe the country is heading in the wrong direction.
Similarly, a Quinnipiac University poll found only 38% of Americans approve of Trump’s job performance—his lowest rating in decades.
Supporters Open Up on Reddit
With these numbers in mind, Trump supporters have taken to Reddit. They discussed what would make them stop backing the president—or what already has.
One Reddit user asked:
“Trump supporters: what is a red line that, if crossed, would make you stop supporting Trump?”
Another shared how they asked their father, a strong Trump supporter. The answer?
“If cuts to Medicaid and Social Security happen, he’ll lose faith in Trump.”
The Red Lines: Liberal Policies Trigger Loss of Support
Another Redditor asked their Trump-supporting parents the same question. Their response was clear:
“Their red line is socialist/liberal policies—nationalized healthcare, wealth tax, unions, federal regulation—especially of the media.”
Ukraine Support Divides Republicans
Another shared:
“Some Republicans who support Ukraine flipped on Trump after his chaotic meeting with Zelensky in February.”
This meeting further divided opinions among conservatives.
Support Is Shifting
Trump’s base is showing cracks. While some remain loyal, others openly share what would break their support. As approval ratings decline, these red lines may grow clearer—and wider.
