“She is his rock, and I can’t emphasize that enough,” Annabel said. “She’s completely loyal, calm, and steady. They’re opposites, but it works brilliantly. They’re yin and yang.”

The road to public acceptance wasn’t easy for Camilla. After news of the affair broke, public opinion turned harsh. The infamous “Tampongate” scandal, in which an intimate phone call between Charles and Camilla was leaked, further damaged their image. Royal expert Angela Levin explained Camilla often stayed home to avoid public hostility, sending friends to run errands for her. She was called cruel nicknames and feared going out in public.
