Defying expectations, a couple with dwarfism becomes parents

Charli Worgan: A Brave Mom Sharing the Realities of Parenthood With Dwarfism

Facing Questions No One Should Ask

Most couples are asked when they’ll have children. But for Charli Worgan and her husband Cullen, people asked why. Living in Sydney, Australia, the couple each have different forms of dwarfism and often face public scrutiny—especially when Charli became pregnant.

Turning Scrutiny Into Education

After welcoming their first daughter, Charli launched a social media account to educate others about life as a family with dwarfism. What began as a simple effort soon attracted a large following. Today, Charli’s Instagram has over 300,000 followers, and she continues to share her parenting journey with honesty and heart.

A Bittersweet Announcement

Charli recently revealed that she was 14 weeks pregnant with her third child. While many mothers celebrate reaching the 12-week mark, Charli faced something far more serious: genetic testing that could determine life or d*ath.

Each pregnancy carries risks due to Charli and Cullen’s conditions. Their children could inherit:

  1. Average height

  2. Charli’s form of dwarfism (Achondroplasia)

  3. Cullen’s form of dwarfism (Geleophysic Dysplasia)

  4. Both forms, a fatal condition known as double dominant dwarfism

Courage Through Uncertainty

To find out the baby’s condition, Charli underwent Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS)—an invasive procedure with a 2% miscarriage risk. In her Instagram post, she explained:

“While most at 12 weeks are celebrating, I was lining up for a massive needle through my abdomen to test the genetic makeup of my baby.”

She added the heartbreaking reality:

“I was waiting to find out if I can bring this little one into the world in March 2021, or if his or her journey ends here.”

Responding to Criticism

Charli also addressed online criticism about her choice to have children despite the odds. She didn’t shy away from the complexity:

“I’ve copped criticism… but bringing a child into this world with these odds is no simple decision. It’s all about being kind.”

A Family Thriving With Love

Today, Charli and Cullen have three thriving children—Tully (2), Tilba (4), and newborn Rip, who arrived in February. Charli posted a heartfelt message alongside a photo of her with Rip:

“I’m tired but ever so grateful and lucky. There’s no ‘correct’ way to do motherhood—but I’m sure there’s no ‘wrong’ way either.”

A Story That Inspires

Charli’s openness shows that parenthood, no matter your background, is filled with challenges and joy. Her story speaks to every parent navigating the unknown.

Charli’s journey is one of strength, love, and determination.
Please share her story to inspire others and promote kindness in the face of difference.
