Mark Wahlberg discusses the significance of him not “denying” his faith.

Mark Wahlberg Opens Up About Faith, Family, and the Power of Fasting

For Mark Wahlberg, faith isn’t just a quiet belief—it’s the compass that guides his life. The Hollywood star has never shied away from his Catholic roots, whether it’s attending daily Mass, wearing ashes on his forehead during Lent, or speaking candidly about the role God plays in his journey. But in a recent interview with Savannah Guthrie, the 51-year-old actor made it clear: while his faith is deeply personal, he never imposes it on others—especially not his four children.

“I’d never force it on them,” Wahlberg said. “But I also won’t hide it. That, to me, would be a greater sin.” Instead, he leads by example—quiet moments of prayer, daily Scripture readings, and a life shaped by discipline and intention. He hopes his kids are watching. “If it works for Dad,” he smiles, “maybe it’ll work for us.”

Wahlberg recently joined the Pray40 Lent Challenge through the Catholic prayer app Hallow, serving as a guest narrator and ambassador. For him, Lent isn’t just tradition—it’s transformation. Through fasting, he says, people can break free from harmful habits and make space for spiritual growth. His own fast includes cutting out meat and limiting meals, a small sacrifice that he says re-centers him and strengthens his connection to God.

Discipline, he believes, is the foundation of both his career and his character. “God didn’t come to save the faithful,” he reflects. “He came to save the guilty.” That message resonates deeply with Wahlberg, who’s open about his past and grateful for the second chances that faith has brought him.

For Mark Wahlberg, faith isn’t a spotlight—it’s a steady flame. It’s the quiet strength behind his success, the moral anchor for his family, and the daily reminder that growth is always possible, no matter where you begin.
