Server called out as ‘entitled’ for criticizing customers who leave small tips

Server Sparks Outrage Over Tipping Expectations

A server has stirred up heated debate after calling out customers who don’t tip the expected 20%. In a viral TikTok video, he slammed small tips as “not cute”—and it didn’t sit well with many viewers.

Calling Out “Bad Tippers”

Ben Raanan, known as @blazikenben on TikTok, voiced his frustration over $5 and $10 tips on large bills. He argued these amounts fall far short of the industry standard.

“Listen up, bad tippers,” he said. “You can’t just leave a cute little $5 or $10 and think that’s fun. It’s not.”

Inflation Changes the Game

Ben explained that inflation has eroded the value of what used to be decent tips. According to him, a $10 tip on a $50 bill—20%—is fair. But tipping far less on a high bill, he argued, insults the staff.

He even encouraged servers to speak up when they receive what he considers unfair tips.

A Simple Solution

To help customers out, Ben ended his video with a quick method for calculating a 20% tip. He urged diners to know what they should leave based on their bill.

Internet Reacts: Mixed Opinions

The video quickly divided viewers. Some backed Ben, agreeing that tips should reflect the total bill. Others were furious, labeling him “entitled” and dismissing the 20% standard as unreasonable.

One TikTok user wrote:

“I’m so tired of servers being soooo entitled. Inflation affects us all.”

Another questioned the tipping model entirely, saying:

“Tipping should be optional, not a requirement.”

Who’s Really to Blame?

Many critics turned the spotlight on restaurant owners. They argued that relying on customers to make up for low wages isn’t fair—either to the servers or the diners.

Others pointed out that tipping based on the meal’s cost doesn’t make sense. After all, the level of service doesn’t change whether you order a burger or a steak.
