Is Donald Trump Jr. Eyeing 2028? He Says No—Emphatically
Since Donald Trump began his second term in office, public discussion about the future of the Trump political dynasty has intensified. While supporters speculate about who might carry the torch after 2028, one name that often comes up is his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr.
The Rumor: Trump Jr. for 2028?
In May 2025, a report from Mediaite claimed that Donald Trump Jr. was “seriously considering” a presidential run after his father leaves office. The outlet cited three unnamed sources close to the Trump family who alleged that Trump Jr. was eyeing a potential 2028 campaign.
Trump Jr.’s Strong Denial
Shortly after the report began circulating, Donald Trump Jr. responded publicly on X (formerly Twitter), forcefully denying the claim. In a blunt message, he wrote:
“I accurately predicted that my buddy JD would be an instant power player in national GOP politics, so your theory is that I worked my ass off to help him get the VP nomination because I want to run for president in 2028?
Are you fing retarded? I’m actually glad you’re printing this s though because at least now the rest of the press corps will see how bad your ‘sources’ are and how easily you’re played by them. Congrats, moron.”
He followed that with another post:
“LOL A lot of fake stories have been written about me over the years, but this might be the most obviously fake one yet. Congrats to [Diana Falzone] & Mediaite for embarrassing themselves. You guys got played and now all your friends in the press are mocking you behind your back 🤡.”
What This Means for 2028
Trump Jr. made it clear that he has no current intention of running for president in 2028. He also pointed to his support for Senator JD Vance, his father’s vice presidential pick, as evidence that the rumor lacked logic.
While it’s theoretically possible that his plans could change in the future, as of now, Trump Jr. is not planning a 2028 run and has publicly ridiculed the idea.
