A Surprising Moment of Warmth
In an unexpected twist, President-elect Donald Trump revealed that he and former President Barack Obama “probably do” like each other—despite their political differences. The two were caught on camera smiling and laughing together during former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, January 9.
Trump Reflects on the Footage
Speaking from Mar-a-Lago, Trump, 78, admitted he hadn’t noticed how friendly the moment looked until he saw the video.
“I saw the video and thought, ‘Boy, they look like two people that like each other.’ And we probably do,” he said during a C-SPAN2 broadcast.
He added, “We have a little different philosophies, right? But we probably do. I don’t know. We just got along. But I got along with just about everyone.”
What Were They Talking About?
Although Trump didn’t share the details of their conversation, forensic lip reader Jeremy Freeman offered a guess. He speculated they may have discussed international issues.
Freeman also noted both men likely knew the cameras were rolling and acted accordingly—cordial in public, with possible serious topics saved for private.
