My Tolerance for Creepy Crawlies… Except Ticks
I consider myself compassionate and understanding toward all creatures, even spiders and snakes—common phobias for many. They don’t bother me enough to go out of my way to avoid them. My tolerance for creepy crawlies is generally high… but not when it comes to ticks.
Honestly, I wouldn’t lose any sleep if ticks disappeared forever. They’re not only annoying and invasive but also pose serious health risks.
1. Identify and Isolate
First, determine what type of tick you’re dealing with, if possible. Keep children and pets away from the area until it’s properly handled.
2. Protect Yourself
Wear gloves and long sleeves to avoid direct contact with ticks.
3. Clean Thoroughly
Wash clothes or bedding on high heat, and vacuum floors, especially in corners and crevices.
4. Remove the Tick Safely
Use fine-tipped tweezers to grasp the tick close to the skin and pull upward gently. Don’t twist to ensure the head remains intact.
5. Disinfect and Dispose
Clean the bite area with alcohol or soap and water. Ki.ll the tick by dousing it with alcohol or flushing it down the toilet.
6. Monitor for Symptoms
Keep an eye on the bite area and watch for signs of illness in the affected person.
