I’ve always lived in multi-story homes, but honestly, I never paid much attention to the staircases. One was even grand and elegant — yet I barely gave it a detailed glance. Now, I regret that. We’ve since moved, and I recently learned something fascinating: many staircases hide a small, intentional detail — a single upside-down baluster.

Not a Builder’s Mistake

If you’ve ever spotted an upside-down baluster in your home, you might have assumed it was a careless mistake by the carpenter. But here’s the surprise: builders usually place it that way on purpose.

The Superstitions Behind It

There’s an old tradition among builders and carpenters. Installing one upside-down baluster symbolizes that only God’s creations are perfect, and all human-made things should carry a small flaw.
