Absent On the 18th anniversary of Madeleine McCann’s kidnapping, her parents have shared a heartfelt letter to their daughter who has gone missing.
A few hours before the milestone of her disappearance on May 3, 2007, while on a family vacation in Portugal, Kate and Gerry McCann posted an update on their official Find Madeleine Facebook page.
Although there has been no confirmed sighting of the youngster since she disappeared while at the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz and no one has been accused of kidnapping her, her parents have never quit up.
They also included a touching tribute to missing and displaced children in the UK, as well as war-torn Ukraine and Gaza, in their letter, which also honored Madeleine’s 22nd birthday later this month.
Kate and Gerry said: “As we arrive at the 18th anniversary of Madeleine’s abduction, we’d like to thank our faithful supporters once again for standing by us and never forgetting about Madeleine.”
The years seem to be going by even faster, and even though we don’t have any noteworthy news to report, we are steadfast in our resolve to “leave no stone unturned.” We will make every effort to do this.
May is also the month which includes “International Missing Children’s Day” (25th). We continue to remember all missing children and their families, both here in the UK and abroad, thinking especially of all the children displaced from their homes & families in Ukraine & Gaza at this time.

The post contained a montage of pictures of Madeleine with the caption: “No matter how near or far she is, Madeleine continues to be with us, every day.”
In anticipation of Saturday’s anniversary, Kate and Gerry approved the message that was displayed on Friday night. They are also scheduled to attend a prayer vigil in their hometown of Rothley, Leicestershire, to commemorate her absence.
Following reports that a Polish lady named Julia Wandel had hounded Kate and Gerry, who had visited their home and called them claiming to be their missing daughter, it was announced earlier this week that police would be monitoring the event.
Wandel was detained at Bristol airport while traveling to Rothley, and she is currently being held before her trial in the UK later this year. Kate, 57, and Gerry, 56, are scheduled to testify.
German authorities have designated 47-year-old Christian Brueckner, a convicted rapist and paedophile, as the main suspect in her kidnapping and death; however, he has not been charged with any crimes since the announcement five years ago.
The German, who was residing in the Algarve when Madeleine vanished, is scheduled to be released in the fall after serving a seven-year prison sentence for raping a woman in the same region.
