There has been a lot of debate going on about transgender athletes, particularly individuals who were born as a male competing in female sports. Now there is more debate, as a transgender athlete is breaking records.
AB Hernandez, who is a junior at Jurupa Valley High School is also a transgender athlete who destroyed the competition at a girl’s triple jump event. She set the new record by an additional 8 feet, and many were stunned by what was taking place.
The win was secured with a jump of more than 40 feet at the Ontario Relays invitational meet in February. The runner-up jumped over 32 feet, and then Hernandes also took first place in the high jump and long jump.
People were shocked that she had such a winning streak in the category but not everybody felt as if it was justified. She finished 3 feet ahead of the triple jump runner-up and 2 feet ahead of the person who placed second in the long jump competition.
Many were concerned that a trans woman was allowed to compete in women’s sports and felt it was a disgrace. They felt so because she would end up winning every single competition and they thought that she was more than a man than anything else.
This is all coming in the face of calls by Donald Trump to have trans athletes band from female competitions. We’ll have to watch this one carefully.
