OB-GYN faces lawsuit from trans woman over refusal to provide treatment for male genitalia

Denied Care Sparks Lawsuit

After a gynecologist refused to treat her for a body part she didn’t have, a transgender woman claimed discrimination. The situation escalated quickly as she launched a lawsuit, igniting heated debate worldwide. Keep reading to discover the details.

Who Is Jessica Simpson?

Jessica Yaniv, now going by Jessica Simpson, is a Canadian transgender activist. She gained attention in 2018 after filing multiple human rights complaints. These complaints targeted beauticians who refused to wax her male genitalia.

Simpson wanted a Brazilian wax — a procedure designed for female anatomy. However, applying this technique to male anatomy is known as a “brozilian” or “manzilian,” which requires separate training. Despite still having male genitalia, Simpson accused five independent beauty workers of discrimination and demanded up to $15,000 from each.

Beauty Workers Push Back

According to Simpson, “None of these providers had any issue until I mentioned I was transgender,” she told the court. But in 2019, she lost the discrimination case.

The court ordered Simpson to pay $2,000 to each of the three respondents. It also noted she displayed “animus toward certain racial, religious, and cultural groups.”

Many of the women she accused were home-based estheticians who spoke little English and ultimately had to close their businesses. They provided waxing services for female clients but were not trained or equipped to handle male anatomy.

When asked if she felt guilty about the business closures, Simpson said: “No, why should I feel bad? The one who was the victim here was me. All women should receive the same service.”

Simpson vs. Fire Department

Simpson’s complaints didn’t stop there. Over the next few years, she filed grievances against beauty pageants, the RCMP, provincial health authorities, and a local news outlet.

In February 2021, the Langley Fire Department issued her a formal warning. Simpson had reportedly made over 30 non-emergency calls asking for help getting out of the bath.

The department wrote, “Your conduct has created an unsafe environment for our staff. This will not be tolerated going forward.” Simpson fired back in a now-deleted tweet, announcing she planned to sue the township for libel.

Targeting the Gynecologist

Despite past legal troubles, Simpson continued her activism. She most recently accused a gynecologist of discrimination after being told, “We don’t serve transgender patients.”

On Instagram, she expressed feeling “shocked, confused, and hurt.” She tweeted at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC), questioning if the refusal was legal.

Simpson emphasized that gynecologists are part of the team handling transgender care, especially during or after gender-transition surgeries. Although she later claimed CPSBC sided with her, no updates have been reported since she launched the complaint in 2019.

What Critics Say

Many critics argue this isn’t discrimination — it’s a matter of clinical safety.

Kirralie Smith from Binary, an organization challenging gender ideology, stated: “Plastic surgery and hormones don’t magically turn a male into a female. Simpson needs a transgender specialist, not a doctor specializing in women’s healthcare.”

Comedian Ricky Gervais also mocked the situation online, joking: “It’s disgusting that a gynecologist can refuse to check a lady’s cock for ovarian cancer. What if her bollocks are pregnant?”

Understanding Trans Healthcare

Medical experts highlight key differences between natal female anatomy and surgically constructed neo-vaginas.

Anyone with a cervix, vagina, uterus, ovaries, or fallopian tubes needs regular gynecologic care, regardless of gender. However, individuals assigned male at birth — without surgery — don’t need the same care. Only after a trans woman undergoes genital reconstruction would she need gynecological services for the new anatomy.

At the time of her complaint, Simpson had not undergone such surgery.

Final Thoughts

This debate raises a vital question: should healthcare follow identity or anatomy?
