Earlier today, I stumbled upon a strange, fuzzy object on my bed — smaller than a U.S. dime and wrapped in a soft, fur-like material. At first glance, it looked almost organic, maybe even a little dirty on the inside. The outer layer was grayish-brown, with a textured fabric that raised more questions than answers.
Curious (and mildly creeped out), I turned to Reddit for answers. And of course, the internet delivered.
Several users chimed in, identifying the object as a button cover — the kind used on upholstered furniture. These covers are typically glued over buttons on couches, chairs, or decorative cushions. Over time, they can pop off due to wear and tear, especially if the furniture gets a lot of use.
One user noted:
“Looks like an upholstery button cover – fabric that’s glued on buttons that are used on upholstered furniture seats, backs, and accessories. Sometimes the wear and tear strips one of them off the button.”
Another added simply:
“Does look like a button cover tbh.”
And after a little inspection of my furniture (yep, one button was indeed missing!), I can confirm: Solved. I am 99% sure it’s a button cover from something!
So if you ever find a mysterious, furry disc on your bed, don’t panic — it’s probably not a bug or alien growth. It’s just your couch falling apart one button at a time.
