Clinton Reacts to Trump Administration’s Military Leak
Hillary Clinton swiftly reacted to a recent blunder by the Trump administration regarding the leak of top-secret military plans.
The Leak and Goldberg’s Role
Jeffrey Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, was accidentally added to a group chat on Signal. The chat included National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, Vice-President JD Vance, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. They discussed military plans to strike Yemen, which led to the deaths of over 30 people on March 15. Goldberg was made aware of the plans two hours before the attack occurred.
Trump Responds to the Mistake
Trump addressed the leak in a phone interview with NBC News, explaining that Waltz, or someone on his team, mistakenly added Goldberg to the chat. Trump defended Waltz, calling him a “good man” who had learned a lesson.
Clinton’s Sharp Response
Hillary Clinton wasted no time in reacting. On Twitter, she shared a screenshot of Goldberg’s article, adding an emoji of eyes and the comment: “You have got to be kidding me.”
Goldberg’s Cautionary Point
Goldberg later pointed out that the situation could have been much worse. He noted that if someone supportive of the Houthis had been in the chat, it could have endangered American service members involved in the operation. Had such a person forewarned the Houthis, the strikes might not have been as effective.
