John Goodman Hospitalized After On-Set Accident
Unexpected Injury Halts Filming
Hollywood veteran John Goodman, 72, was rushed to the hospital after a sudden accident on set, bringing production on his latest film with Tom Cruise to a halt. The incident occurred at Pinewood Studios in the UK, where Goodman reportedly fell and injured his hip while blocking a scene.
Immediate Medical Attention
Goodman, known for his resilience, remains active in Hollywood. Currently filming alongside Tom Cruise, he continues to prove that age is no barrier to his craft. The upcoming sci-fi thriller, Judy, directed by Oscar-winner Alejandro González Iñárritu, has been in production for nearly two months and is set for an October 2026 release.
While many might assume risk-taker Tom Cruise was injured, it was Goodman who needed hospitalization. His injury was not stunt-related, but rather the result of a slip or fall during a scene setup.
Goodman Expected to Recover Soon
The exact details of Goodman’s hip injury remain unclear, but reports indicate he is recovering well. According to The Mirror, he was taken to the hospital but is expected to be back on his feet soon.
“He received immediate medical attention, causing a brief delay in shooting. Production will resume next week after his full recovery,” a Warner Bros. Pictures spokesperson confirmed.
A Star-Studded Sci-Fi Thriller
Judy is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated films of the decade. Alongside Goodman and Cruise, the cast includes Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, and Sophie Wilde.
For Cruise, this film marks a major return to Warner Bros. Discovery, following a new development and production deal. It is his first project with the studio since Edge of Tomorrow (2014). Cruise has been on a blockbuster streak with Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning and Top Gun: Maverick. With Judy expected to be another high-profile sci-fi thriller, excitement continues to build.
Goodman’s Health Journey
Beyond his successful career, Goodman has battled personal struggles, including depression, anxiety, and past alcohol addiction. Losing his father at just two years old, he later faced panic attacks and even drank on set during Roseanne’s peak years. In 2007, with the support of his wife, he entered rehab and has remained sober ever since.
His health transformation has been equally remarkable. Once weighing nearly 400 pounds, Goodman committed to a healthier lifestyle with trainer Mackie Shilstone. He adopted a Mediterranean diet rich in fish, nuts, olive oil, vegetables, and fruit, exercising five to six times a week. His dedication paid off—he lost over 100 pounds and continues to prioritize his well-being.
“This didn’t happen overnight — it’s been an ongoing process,” Shilstone told New York Post. “There needs to be strategic planning. This time, he wanted to do it.”
A Challenging Year for Goodman
2025 has already been a tough year for Goodman. In addition to his on-set injury, he recently lost his Pacific Palisades home in a devastating fire. Fans are rallying behind him, hoping for a swift recovery as he navigates these challenges with resilience.
