It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of this legendary actor

A Legendary Career

Blake’s acting career began in the late 1930s. He debuted as a child in the uncredited role of “Bridal Suite” in 1939. He gained fame for his roles in “In Cold Blood” and “Baretta,” accumulating nearly 150 acting credits.

Throughout his career, Blake received four Emmy nominations, winning one for “Baretta.” His final dramatic role came in the 1997 film “Lost Highway.”

Controversial Legacy

Blake’s passing adds him to the list of notable figures we have lost. While many remember his remarkable career, others reflect on the controversies that marked his later life.

In May 2001, tragedy struck when Blake’s second wife, Bonnie Lee Bakley, was killed. LAPD Online reported that she was found dead in Blake’s car, slumped in the front seat. They had been married for one year, and Bakley was 44 at the time of her death.

Accusations and Trial

The shocking nature of Bakley’s death led to Blake’s arrest 11 months later. Officer Don Cox confirmed the arrest, stating, “We are confirming that we have detained Robert Blake in connection with the death of his wife.”

Blake consistently denied the charges, claiming he left Bakley in the car after dinner. He maintained his version of events throughout the court proceedings and spent a year in jail before posting a $1.5 million bond. In a 2003 interview with Barbara Walters, he suggested that Bakley’s troubled past led to her death, implying that her previous marriages might have put her at risk.

On March 29, 2005, a jury found Blake not guilty of murder. However, the scandal left a lasting stain on his reputation.
